Field Hockey has very many hits. The three main hits are:

• Push-you push the ball to someone else’s stick. There is no backswing.
  
• Flick-you lift the ball a little bit off the ground. There is no backswing.
  
• Hit-any type of hit having contact with the ball. There is a backswing.
  
  
  

Most hits are used the whole game. If you want to hit the ball far you would use the drive, or the sweep. The drive is when you have your hands in the middle of the grip, and you take a big backswing and hit the ball and try to make it to the other teammate. The sweep is when you “sweep” the stick on the ground and hit the ball with the middle part of your stick. There are also hits that don’t go to far but there good for short passes. They are:

• Slap- you slap the ball with your stick. There is a backswing.
  
• Short-hand grip- your hands are at the bottom of the grip, and you take a backswing from the waist down.
  
  
  

The one hit that you use mostly to score is the ariel. The ariel is a lift that you use and you can lift it as high as needed. But it can only go above heads if no one is around. Those are the most used hits of field hockey.
