Another kind of a food additive is the color additive. Color additives are added to many foods consumed daily. Color additives, also called dyes, are added to food, drugs, cosmetics, or directly to the human body. Dye, for example, is used to change cookies or cakes to different colors for personal pleasures. One dye, called Para Red, is illegal to use in Europe because it can cause cancer. According to the Center For Science in The Public Interest (CSPINET), "Red Dye No. 3 may cause thyroid tumors after they did animal testing. Citrus Red 2 and Blue 1 have been tested and are said to cause cancer. Citrus Red can be found in some oranges and Blue 1 can be found in beverages, candy and baked goods. The dye Green 3 may cause hints of bladder cancer over time and it is found in candy and beverages. Yellow 6, the third most used dye can cause tumors in the kidney. This dye can be found in baked goods, candy, gelatin, beverages and sausage." These are just some of the food dyes and additives that are unsafe.
