The current treatment commonly involves taking isoniazid, a drug, for six to twelve months to treat TB infection.Someone with TB will normally have to take at least three drugs.
If a person stops taking the drugs or takes less than the prescribed amount, they could develop a drug-resistant strain of tuberculosis. Patients with this strain do not respond well to medications currently available.

One way to prevent Tuberculosis (TB) is to cover the mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing. While covering one's mouth during sneezing or coughing, use an elbow or shoulder to prevent the spread of germs. Any infected person should stay away from others. If an infected person does come in contact with someone else, they should try not to talk or open their mouth.
