Genetics helix
Obese family
Sometimes, despite eating right, a person might become obese because of the genetic traits that person received from their parents. According to an article on the St. Vincent Health website, "A family history of obesity increases your chances of becoming obese by about 25 to 30 percent."

This article continues to explain that a person's genes do not cause them to become overweight, but they cause a person to have more body fat. This article also says that a person who has a family history of obesity may be much more vulnerable to excessive weight gain. Therefore, a person who has a genetic tendency to obesity is able to lose weight; however, it may be much more difficult for them to do so.
