The Team
Everyone in our group was interested in the topic of space. We looked at the older ThinkQuest entries on space and we found there were no sites on the future of space. We decided to veer away from the topic of space history and concentrated our research instead on space tourism, increased space development, and what we call 'the New Space Race.' We worked very well together. Our team members always concentrated on the job at hand. We divided up the tasks based upon people’s interests. We worked independently, but met as a group regularly to review our material, discuss the site, and divide up new tasks as they came along. Since August 2007, we have met almost every Sunday afternoon to work on the site, starting with research, then writing, and finally site design, to create the website we have now. As a group we enjoyed the knowledge we learned and the website we made.
Chase
This is the second Thinkquest site I have helped make. I joined this group because I like to learn about space. I am in the fifth grade. My hobbies are football card collecting, building model airplanes, and video games.
I liked launching the rockets the most. I did some of the research for different articles. I also helped design how the website looks. Did you see the interviews with people from certain companies? I did the one on Rocketplane.
The most challenging part for me was doing the research because there was so little about what this site is about. The easiest part was picking colors for the design.
Michael
My name is Michael. At my house, I have one dog named Lily. I used to have fish, but our tank started to leak and get moldy, so we had to get rid of them. The crabs were good at getting out and we had to use a paint brush to push them back down. Our dog was a complete surprise to me. I thought we were going on a normal vacation, but we also went the dog breeder. On the way back, we read a book of baby names. We picked out Lily.
This is my second year in doing ThinkQuest. I wrote the 'Ham Radio' section, 'Transportation' in the Future section, 'Early Space History' section, and other things. The Ham Radio was probably the hardest to do. It never seemed right. I really enjoyed doing the parts of the site.
Juliana
I am in seventh grade and this is the third ThinkQuest site I have created. I like to ride horses and I own a pony. I have one brother, a mom, and a dad. I liked when we launched the rockets, and I researched and wrote about NASA’s Centennial Challenges, Virgin Galactic, and Scaled Composites, and some other sections. I also helped build the website as well. The most difficult part of making this website was not being able to work on ThinkQuest in school all the time – I had to work on it at home.
Nadia
Hi, my name is Nadia. I have one brother, one sister, a mom, dad, and two cats named Hamlet and Jezebel. I like to run track, play soccer, swim, and read. My favorite book series are Redwall, Harry Potter, and Guardians of Gahoole. I helped create the structure of the site and I wrote and researched for various reports like the Space Race and the X-Prize. This is my second time building a website for ThinkQuest. I think the hardest part of this project was finding pictures and forming pages.
Vaughan
My name is Vaughan. I love horses and I love to read. I also love all animals. I enjoyed working on this site because I had to read a lot of articles on space companies. I wrote some of the company profiles and did an interview with Armadillo Aerospace’s manager. I think the new space race is very interesting because all of these new companies are competing against each other with their own ships to get to space.
About the Coaches
Ms. Gentile is not just our coach, but our teacher as well. She works at our school and helps our whole class in ThinkQuest. She is a very good coach. Asif, our assistant coach, is a previous ThinkQuest competitor, and helped us research our topics and develop the site.
