Overfishing How does it affects all of us?
Overfishing happens when we fish out the fish, faster then they can reproduce. Most of our larger fish, have been fished out because we are not letting them reproduce at all. And because of this we are pushing the fish population lower and lower. And if we push it down to it's lowest point, there will soon be no more fish to catch The major problem is that we are overfishing so much, that some species of fish could become extinct. Once that species have gotten to the point where not one of them could can reproduce, that species can become extinct. Once that species is extinct, the fishing company's have to move onto a new species, something new to hurt. Overfishing, will soon be hurting everyone. If we don't stop overfishing, the whole ocean ecosystem will be ruined. Animals that eat the fish, like penguins, while soon have nothing to eat if we fish up all the fish. So will soon have nothing to eat, and will have to move on to something else that they are not suppose to eat. Or they will soon die, with nothing to eat. And if the are no longer alive, they animal that eat the penguin, will again have nothing left to eat. So if we over fish the fish that a lot of animals eat, it will soon affect us all. And once fishermen have fished out a species, they move on to a new species, then hurting that species of fish. The big fishing company's are really hurting the fish population sky-rocket down. Some of them have the big net's and the super high-tech equipment, they could easily haul a ton of fish every time they take their net underwater. Some company even have equipment that can easily track the fish, so they can get tons of fish every day. How it affects all of us is that once, so many fish have been fished, they may be no more of that fish. So once that fish population have gone down to almost having no more fish of that species, everything that eats that fish surfers. Because there is no more of that fish, everything will soon change, everything that eats that fish will have to change somehow, from eating other fish that they weren't suppose to. We need to care because these are our oceans that we are hurting. Once some of our fish are gone, who knows what could happen. Everything that, that animal eats will be reproducing out of control. While the animal that eats that fish, might just go extinct to because there is nothing to eat. Overfishing has been a global problem. For thousands of years we have rallied on fish as a main food source. We have been catching the fish left and right, but now we are paying the price. Overfishing did not happen because of those lazy afternoons when you go out for maybe 1 fish, but it is the big fishing company that are hurting the fish population. The company's with the big net's and the super high-tech equipment, they could easily haul a ton of fish every time they take their net underwater. But some people use other ways of getting their fish, worse ways. They use something called bottom trawlers, what that does it is dragged along the ocean floor, killing everything in its path. Sometimes the also use “rockhopper” what that is, is that they attached something, mostly an old tire. They get the fish living between the rocks and reef. They do that so that it can roll along the floor, and catch even more fish. Another way to catch the fish is called “Dredging”. What this does is they attach nets, with a chain mesh base through mud to catch anything down there, such as sea urchins or scallops. Some places, like England, many species of fish were once very plentiful. But now most fishing species are struggling to survive. And when there is no more of that species, the fishermen will soon move on to another fish and so on. With that happening they soon will be hurting all the fish someway. And because they are rubbing the nets on the floor, they are hurting the oceans floor. And because many fish live in the reefs, they are killing our hundred year-old reefs. Scientists are pleading that the fishing company's stay awa1y from the sea floor because when you kill the reefs, it takes hundreds of years for it to grow back. Many scientists believe that overfishing is one of the biggest threat to our oceans. Because of the high demand for fish, people are willing to pay a lot of money, so fishermen will do anything for the fish for their many customer. And with the fish all gone, our coral reefs will also soon die, because they live through the fish. And with all the fish gone, everything that they fish eat will soon grow so fast that the oceans will be so full of them that they will be everywhere. Which will ruin our oceans environment. Between 1950-1994, overfishing has increased so much that we have had the lowest numbers of some fish ever. Just between 1997 and 1998, we have caught about 93 tons of fish. And if we keep up with all of this overfishing, soon everyones environment will be changed somehow, somewhere. |
