What causes runoff?
Rain causes runoff. When it rains, the rainwater mixes with trash and other pollutants and it is carried down our storm drains and into our oceans. Gasoline and sewage spills from boats and ships also contribute to the pollution problems. Also if people do not clean up there trash and just leave it into our community then when it rains, the rain picks up all the trash and then goes into sewer drains, and the sewer drains lead to the ocean.

What are Runoffs?

Runoffs are really bad for our oceans. Runoffs are a bunch of water that carries a bunch of trash that people have left in the community. The rain takes the trash and goes down drains that end up in our oceans. Its good for us that we dont have to see a lot of trash everyday but it is super bad for the sea animals and sea creatures that have to see our trash everyday that they did not even do. but not only do they have to see our trash everyday, they also dont know whats edible or not in our oceans. If they eat something that was not edible it could clog a part of there body like the sea animals throat and can suffocate the sea animal. it will increase sea animals or sea creatures chances to be extinct.

Dead Zones:

Dead Zones are places that people cannot go into it. An example of a dead zone is a beach closure. Beach closures happen because of to much precipitation or to much runoff or sewage spills. Also sewage spills and to much precipitation cause a dead zone. If a person goes into a dead zone then the person could get very sick. They can get a flu, a cold or something much worse. So if you see a dead zone. Do not go in it. You can get really sick.

What goes into Runoffs?

People are also a huge contributers to causing pollution. People throw plastic bottles, bottle caps, six-pack rings, trash bags, food wrappers, cigarette butts, polystyrene, glass containers and many other items that should not be thrown into the oceans. The problem with most of this trash that has been thrown into the oceans does not decompose. When items do not decompose they stay in the ocean forever. This trash ends up killing the animals that live in the ocean, for example, a dolphin can got a six-pack ring stuck on its snout and it wont be able to eat and it could possibly die of starvation. Dolphins don't have the hands to remove this type of derbris.

How it hurts the ocean

Many animals eat this junk because they don't know not to. They don't know that it is harmful to them. The trash that they eat can clog their throats or get stuck as they are trying to digest all of this foreign matter, which can possibly kill them. Plastic is the worst offender because it lasts a long time.
Each day fishing boats, cargo ships, and cruise ships go on long journeys on the global ocean and Garbage builds up on ship quickly. When a ship is on a long journey and collects too much garbage for the ship to hold, the excess trash gets dumped into the ocean. Scientists are looking closely at our oceans to see what kinds of trash are collecting in it. Hopefully, they will come up with ways to try to lessen the severity of the problem. It is sad to think that the sea creatures have to live in pollution 24 hours a day and seven days a week

Things that can happen when you swim in toxic:

Things that can happen to you when you swim in runoffs or toxic waste is that you can get really sick like you can get the flu and start to vommit. This could also cause kidney failure and also bloody diarrhea. It can also give you serious infections and many illnesses that can effect your immune system. It could also give you a fever, cold, chills or ear discharge.
