Our Mission
Thousands of years ago, humans had already surpassed all other organisms with their abilities. They could think and they could improve. Such abilities gave them the power to move ahead every day and as long as we exist. We humans have come to be rulers of nature, with dams that change the flow of rivers, buildings that pierce the sky, cures for the sick, and our persistence as we delving deeper every day into the smallest details that make up the world around us and that make us human. Throughout these periods of success, one vital achievement would pave the way for all great advancements and progress to be possible: language. Language connects our minds and introduces new worlds of possibility. Being able to communicate and to understand each other through speech has brought a new perspective to our world and lives.
Having taken foreign language courses and been given the opportunity to study their culture, we feel the spirits of these languages in every letter. The vocabulary, the order of the words, the grammar, the idioms, and the way one addresses another give the languages each their own distinct identity. Speaking a new language means going into a new world filled with new people, new perspectives, and new cultures.
Because of our love of languages, we decided to research them in a way that would give all who go this site a glimpse into how it feels to explore a different culture and language. We want everyone who visits these pages to come away with a better understanding and respect of another language. If language means culture and culture is people, then language is the bridge to bringing people together peacefully.
We have enjoyed doing our research and learning how these languages came into existence. In some cases truly surprised, such as that some languages only exist as spoken word, and yet have never been forgotten, or that there were facts about languages we speak daily but never knew. There were even times that brought a smile to our faces when we saw how many more similarities than differences there were between our languages.
We hope this website can give at least an overview of all the languages of the world. Our mission is to teach a little about a language to anyone who looks through our pages.
Have fun and enjoy learning about language!
