Water Scarcity Collaboration

When our Trio mentors began to tell us about the Thinkquest website design contest, my team and I were up for the challenge. At first it started with two members than with 4 than back to 3, and than it was 5 members than we finally ended up with three final members. Our interest on different topics added excitement and determination. The team struggled to choose a topic, then we heard our mentor discussing with another person about Colorado and Nebraskas conflict over water. The team began to research water on google and we found out how much water is affecting people all over the world. We were so excited on all what we could achieve, and ready to start with our challenge. Like I mentioned before it was tough throughout the webpage design because of all the members who we added and then had to drop because they didn't do an effort. Overall we had fun with all our different ideas coming from Mexico and El Salvador our opinions were different and added interest. At a point we also had Asian and it was really fun callaborating with them. Our creativity was also put into play with the videos that we created which are a masterpiece to our collection. We enjoyed taking pictures at one of the members house, were we bonded through our personalities, happiness, inspiration, and determination. Water Scarcity was a fun topic where we found out our apreciation for the essense of water. We learned to make change in the world by not wasting water when we brush our teeth or comb our hair or when we wash a car. As we did the webpage we found out how to work with advanced technology like Macromedia Dreamwever, and Movie Maker. Our team loved this experienve and enjoyed this oppurtunity where we stated our ideas as individuals and at the same time as a team, "Learning to work with others".

Hi, my name is Vanessa.  I am a senior at Garden City High School in Kansas.  Although I still haven’t decided where I am going to go next year, I am really excited about the prospect of going to college in a big city.  My dream is to become one of the best forensic pathologists in the country.  In my spare time I love to read, play tennis and watch movies with my friends.  I have been in the TRIO Programs for three years and when I heard about this competition, I jumped at the chance of such a great opportunity.  I will admit that I am not a genius when it comes to dealing with computers, but as my team continued to work on our website I came to realize that it was not as hard as I had imagined.  I managed to help with everything on our website like the research, creating the videos, banner and staging our own pictures.  Our team did have its ups and downs, but we still managed to pull things together.  I really enjoyed working on this competition with my friends, and I will look back fondly on the memories of this stressful yet incredible experience.

The topic Water Scarcity had never occurred to us in the beginning of the website, until we began researching topics that affected the world, when we came upon the water issue it completely astonished my group and I. By researching the effects I was able to understand the need for water around the world. While my friends and I worked on research we also had our downs when we didn’t complete our deadlines that we had set for ourselves. However, we seemed to cope along very well, the best part was when we had the idea of recreating some of the scenarios by taking our own pictures and making them come to life. I loved that fact that I contributed in researching and writing the impacts page and solutions, and coming up with some crazy but fun ideas like the time running out video. I also helped designg some of the web page, with my team which we didn’t have a clue on how to work with dream weaver or movie maker. Overall I enjoyed this experience which I learned to collaborate with different people with different opinions and minds of their own, which made the website a great experience and it gave me knowledge.

My name is Luis.  I am a junior at the Garden City High in Kansas.  I helped with some of the research for the cause’s page.  A big problem that I had was that I leave everything to the last minute, but thanks to my teammates I got it done.
