Badminton was invented long, long ago in Greece and Egypt. However, the modern history of badminton began in India. It started off as an Indian children¡¯s game called battledore and shuttlecock. It was later named Poona during the 18th century. British Army Officers stationed in India were introduced to this game. They liked this fast-pace competitive game and brought the idea of this game back to England. Badminton was officially introduced to England in 1837 by the Duke of Beaufort when a party was held at his place. This sport has gotten its name from the Duke¡¯s country estate, which is called Badminton. People called this game - The game of Badminton. People who had played this sports enjoyed it very much and Badminton clubs were started. Badminton spread from England to the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. It had made big strides in Europe. The first championship was held in England in 1899. In 1873, Badminton had no name so people called it Games of Badminton. They then change from Games Of Badminton to Badminton.
