Baseball was invented in 1856 by Alexander Cartwright and the members of New York Knickerbockers Base Ball Club. It was invented from several bat and ball games in Europe. Some examples are Lapta in Russia, Cricket and Rounders from England and Town Ball in Germany. In early times, baseball was called bass-ball, base, base ball, goal ball or town ball. The name Baseball was formalised after Alexander Cartwright devised the rules and regulations of baseball. In 1846, the first baseball game was played and in 1858, the first Baseball League was formed.
