Red Bull New York Team Biography

Founded: 1995 (As the NY/NJ Metro Stars)

Nickname: The Red Bulls or RBNY

Pitch: Giants Stadium

Capacity: 80,242

Sponsor: Adidas

Located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, Red Bull New York, was founded under the name NY/NJ Metrostars in 1995. The Red Bulls have never won a MLS Cup in their thirteen year history, but have reached the semifinals in 2000. In addition, RBNY lost in the finals of the US Open Cup in 2003. In 2006, the Metrostars were bought by an Austrian energy drink producer called Red Bull. Currently, the team plans to build a new soccer specific stadium.

Like other MLS teams, Red Bull New York has taken advantage of the Designated Player Rule. Signing Colombian striker Juan Pablo Angel, former US National Team captain Claudio Reyna, and bringing in previous US National Team Coach Bruce Arena, the Red Bulls qualified for the playoffs last year. However, they failed to advance out of the first round.
