To stay in shape during the winter period, players of the Middlesbrough Cricket team formed Middlesbrough Football Club in 1876. In 1899, the club was elected to the Football League, winning their first game. The Boros moved to Ayresome Park in 1903 from their old home at Linthorpe Road. At Ayresome Park, Middlesbrough weren't successful for three years. It wasn't until George Camsell scored fifty nine league goals, to power Middlesbrough to success. With many more goal scorers to follow, players like Brian Clough, who netted 204 goals in 222 matches, lifted their club to its first ever silverware; an Anglo-Scottish Cup as they beat Fulham. In the mid 1980's however, some feared that Middlesbrough would permanently fold, as the club experienced financial difficulties. Barely getting the money to stay in the league in 1986, two successful years found the Boros in the top flight once again. They have stayed there ever since. Middlesbrough's First Team Squad
