Birmingham FC Team Biography

Founded: 1875

Nickname: The Blues

Pitch: St. Andrews

Capacity: 30,009

Sponsor: F&C Investments

In 1875, a minute group of cricketers living in Holy Church in Bordesley Green established Birmingham Football Club, then known as Small Heath Alliance. After being together ten years, the group turned professional.

The Blues, or Birmingham Football Club, were one of the founding members of the Football League Second Division, and were crowned champions the first year. Becoming Birmingham FC in 1905, they declared the home field St. Andrews , one year later. Many “curses” have been put on this field many fans declare, but they usually say this when their team is having a long losing streak.

Birmingham has spent most of their time playing English football moving from the First Division to the Second Division. Yet, they have made the most out of their opportunities. In 1955 they won the Second Division, beating Luton , and in 1963 they enjoyed success with a win over Aston Villa in the League Cup.
