I am ten years old, and I live in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. I was born in Frbeiburg, Germany. My parents are from Germany. My dad came to the United States for his post-doctoral training, in Lexington, Kentucky. I have lived for 8 years and a half in the United States. I have two sisters who were born here. I like to live here. Its fun. I only know Germany as a vacation spot. I enjoy going to Germany to see my family. I do a lot of things in Germany. I love the food, my cousin’s house, and riding my bike. I don’t like how the people here pollute. I never thought of myself as an immigrant. I don’t think we are different than anybody else. I speak German at home. I don’t like fast food restaurants. I don’t know how life is in Germany. In my house, we eat traditional German foods, especially the cakes. In Germany, the villages are smaller, and it’s easier to get around. We can walk and ride our bikes, something that we cannot do here. I feel that immigrant children should have the same rights as other children. If their parents here illegally, there is probably a good reason. Children cannot stay in Mexico, and their parents here. Family needs to be together. If you came here illegally, your child will be American easily. I have American and Immigrant friends. I enjoy learning about their different traditions and cultures. In some ways, I feel American, because I speak English, I have lived here, and I have friends here. I feel like an international child, not an immigrant. |
