I believe that all animals should have 5 basic freedoms. They are
1) Freedom from thirst, hunger, and malnutrition.
2) Freedom from fear and distress.
3) Freedom from pain, injury, and disease.
4) Freedom to behave as they would in the wild.
5) Freedom to have warmth and physical comfort!
When you go to a zoo do you learn anything? You might learn what they look like but not really anything else. People spend about 3 seconds at each enclosure.
I noticed, when we went to the Sunset Zoo, that some of the enclosures the animals do not have a lot of room or stuff in them. Most animals need space to run like cheetahs. In the wild cheetahs run up to 60 to 80 miles per hour in speed. How are they suppose to do that in an enclosure?
When we went to the zoo we split up, so I do not know what the other groups did. If they banged on the glass or yelled or screamed! Do you think that the animals like being screamed at or like kids banging on the glass? I do not. If you do not like being yelled at, then how do you think they feel?
Zoo animals cannot live a normal life in a zoo. In their enclosures they do not have anything they have in the wild.
I am against zoos for all these reasons! I hope in the mean time zoos will get better!
