Stability

Coastal zone can be protected against erosion, storm surge and tsunamis by mangroves. However, these trees are found mainly where the waves are not strong. Therefore their ability to protect the coastline is limited.

Mangroves provide habitats for wildlife such as fish and crustaceans. In Asia, mangrove plantations are grown in coastal regions to promote fisheries.
