Reusing and reduction of waste

Introduction

Do you have any books you might want to through away? Why don’t you try to reuse them instead? Books require trees to be chopped down for the production of paper. By reuse these books, the knowledge found in them can be reused as well. For example, textbooks you may have used earlier in your education may be given to poorer children who are at that early stage of education. This in turn will help decrease the demand for paper worldwide.

The paperless trail

E-ticketing can save a lot of money. Do you realise that this may be a good way of combating deforestation? Yes, the paperless way! Currently, only China is leading in this technology. It is the only country in the world to stop printing tickets.

Waste not, want not

Timber must not be wasted. For example, inferior logs can be made into plywood. Rubber wood can be made into furniture. Pulp can be used to make fiberboard and particleboard too.

Tannin can also be extracted from tree barks to convert cowhide into leather. Waste paper, old newspaper and sawdust can be recycled to make magazines and cardboard. We can also recycle boxes or other paper products in our daily life. Do not waste and think carefully before you use or buy anything. Do your part to save the earth!

The consumer has a choice

Energy-efficient appliance, insulating a house, recycling, living near work or travelling by public transportation can help us prevent global warming. You may wish to stop buying wooden furniture and buy cane furniture instead.

The consumer should patronize those manufacturers of palm oil and paper products that are environmentally-friendly. This way, we can all work hand in hand to fight this global dilemma.
