Protecting coastlines

How can coastlines be protected? Dike and barriers can be built. Coastal populations can also move to higher ground.

Carbon Sequestration Reforestation

The simplest way to sequester carbon is to have more trees. Trees take in a lot of carbon dioxide for growth.

Worldwide, logging contributes significantly to carbon emission. Reforestation can help to sequestrate carbon. This is one reason why three is a generous contribution of A$200 million from Australia to South-east Asian countries for the purpose for forest rehabilitation. The effect of the alarming deforestation rate in these countries is being taken seriously by the other countries now.

Direct sequestration

What are the other ways of removing carbon dioxide from the environment to alleviate global warming? Carbon dioxide gas can also be sequestered by injecting it into oil wells to force more petroleum out. Deep ocean waters also absorb a great deal of carbon dioxide.
Alternative sources of energy

Alternative sources of energy that release less carbon dioxide than fossil fuel are helpful in reducing global warming. These include natural gas, biomass fuel, hydro-electricity, wind, geothermal and solar energy. Nuclear energy releases no carbon dioxide at all. However, it generates many other problems.
