Farming

Land is getting scarce as the population grows. Farming more food crops on less land needs new technology such as high-yield hybrid crops and hydroponics. However this method depends heavily on fertilisers. An advantage is not needing to use pesticides for hydroponics and aeroponics farming. The disadvantages are high labour costs and high outlay which translates to more expensive products.

In cyclic agriculture, cattle are grazed on farm land that is being rested to restore fertility. Selective farming can also increase fertility as this releases mineral salts from the subsoil.

The most important consideration for agriculture is maintaining soil fertility. Then farmers do not need to keep clearing forests for arable land. Palm trees actually help the soil by releasing nutrients into the soil as they grow. These palm trees also help stabilize the soil, thereby preventing soil erosion from taking place.
