Food

Introduction

Thousands of different species of fruits can be found in the rainforests. However, we use only a fraction of these fruits.

Many fruits, spices and vegetables we enjoy eating can be found in the rainforest. Bananas, papayas, lemon-grass, sweet potatoes, tapioca, cinnamon and nuts originate in the forests. Some of these are the staples while others act as condiments or garnishing to improve the taste of food.

During a famine or war, forests can be the source of food. In some countries, wild fruits are harvested while awaiting the harvest of cultivated crops.

Wildlife in forests such as wildboars is also frequently hunted for food. This illustrates the importance of forests in our lives. Do your part to protect the forests to ensure that our food source will continue to thrive in the forests.
