Timber harvesting provides jobs in many developing countries. This is because the abundant rainforests in these countries may be the only avenue for employment for the local people. However, timber harvesting is a very dangerous profession. A timber harvesting safety guideline is available to prevent accidents during harvesting of timber.
Timber from mangrove swamps is also harvested to make firewood or charcoal for the purposes of cooking. Timber is also used for construction.
