Floods

The Yangtze flood

Deforestation led to the 1998 great Yangtze River flood. It was related to the watershed loosing 85 percent of its forest cover. This led to soil erosion, silting of the river and subsequently the river bursting its bank.

Logging had a great impact on this flood. The sediments were usually prevented by the trees from flowing into the river but this natural protection was lost following the massive deforestation.
