Disruption of the hydrologic cycle (Wind erosion)

Wind Erosion

Fine particles, being very light, are blown away easily. Smooth soil surfaces render it more prone for wind erosion to take place.

Natural Factors Affecting Wind Erosion

The wind and the climate can promote wind erosion. Strong winds carry the sediments further away. Dry climate is even more favourable for wind erosion to occur.

Human Factors Affecting Wind Erosion

Windbreaks like trees and shrubs are obstacles as the wind will be unable to blow the sediments away if they hit a tree trunk. Deforestation causes a lack of these windbreaks, allowing the wind to blow the sediments away, thus encouraging wind erosion to take place.
