Population growth and deforestation

Introduction

Agricultural needs, logging, development and other human activities needs deforestation. However, only one-tenth of the deforested area has been reforested. Half of the original forest is left now.

The current world population of 6.4 billion is expected to reach 8.5 billion by 2020 and 10 billion by 2050. Population growth will cause a demand for more land for settlement, agriculture, natural resources, industries, commerce and transportation. This spells trouble for the rest of the forests. We must help to create more awareness about the problem of deforestation so that we will not lose too much more of the very forests which are helping us to exist and stay alive.
