Global warming
An important factor in the population-forests equation is global warming. Global warming affects the earth’s temperature and rainfall patterns. This change can render forested areas incompetent in maintaining its trees.
Drought can cause deforestation via forest fires, preventing the re-growth of certain species and favouring others. This may affect the ecosystem of forests and grasslands permanently.
Global warming also affects the agricultural demands as it leads to climate changes, causing floods and droughts that affect the productivity of farms. A glimpse of this was given in Indonesia during the El Nino year of 1997.
