Displacement of indigenous tribes

Rainforests are cleared for pulpwood plants in countries like Indonesia. This is needed as there is a high demand for paper and its products by growing economies.

The indigenous people living in the rainforests are displaced from their homes and are forced to resettle in unfamiliar areas as forests are cut down for this purpose. This can lead to hardship for them as they are not accustomed to their new way of life. Moreover, they lose their tradition and knowledge, especially about the medicinal values of some plants. We shall all lose the chance to benefit from their knowledge about the medicinal values of plants.

This is an excellent example of the dilemma faced by deforestation. On one hand, we need the paper; On the other hand, we are depriving the indigenous people of their homes and also deprive ourselves of some of the knowledge of the plants with medicinal values. What can we do about this? You can find the answer in the "solutions" section.
