| Logging tropical hardwoods such as teak for furniture, building materials and other wood products means megabucks for companies.
The demand for tropical hardwoods is very high. |

Depletion of forests
Due to the high demand, many countries may run out of rainforest hardwood timber for export soon. Japan is the largest importer of tropical woods. Lower quality wood is used to make plywood and fiberboard.
Timber concession
Logging timber in the rainforest is a huge source of income for businessmen. In developing countries with rainforests, logging may even be a main source of revenue. Due to the abundance of the forests, some governments sell them cheaply, leading to the severe deforestation.
Developing countries should not give too many concessions to logging companies so that deforestation can be curtailed.
