| Prevention |
The controlled burning of some trees before the occurrence of drought can prevent wildfires. Fire lookouts can also serve to detect forest fires as early as possible. |
Fire suppression needs manpower with trucks and water-spraying apparatus. Helicopters can transport fire-fighters to inaccessible areas. If the fire is on a steep hill or in a forest, fire-fighters can even fast-rope down from helicopters. They can also parachute in to fight the fire. Flame retardant chemicals may also be used.
A super absorbent polymer, called “gel” is being used to fight such fires as the gel is absorbent and can store a lot of water. |
