Forest fires

Inter-relationship

The inter-relationship between animals and plants is extremely important. It enables both of these creatures to survive in the forest.

An example of inter-relationship between animals and plants is the mistletoe bird that carries the mistletoe seed to a branch where the seed germinates. The mistletoe cannot survive without the haustorium that forms on the particular branch. If the fire kills the mistletoes, the plant can become extinct. Fortunately, these birds may carry seeds back into the burnt area to enable the plants to regrow.
