Wildfires are another cause of deforestation. How do the plants adapt to forest fires? Some have reserve shoots while others have fire-resistant seeds.
Interestingly, some plants such as the eucalyptus germinate better after exposure to smoke.
Other plants such as epiphytes do not have any ability to adapt and may therefore become extinct once the tree they live on is burnt down.

Animals do not adapt so well. However, the wombat can escape a wildfire by digging underground. |
