"Forest Buddies" - The team

The members of “Forest Buddies” are Nicholas, Rui Jin, Samuel and Bryan. Nicholas is from the National University of Singapore High School, Rui Jin is from the Hwa Chong Institution, Singapore, while both Bryan and Samuel hail from the Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), Singapore. Except for Nicholas, the others were classmates in their primary school. The boys thought that it would be a great way to keep in touch. Nicholas was invited to join as he came from another school and that would bring another perspective to the website. Fang Hui was recruited later when the team needed someone to help out in the audio-visual department.

The team came together in November 2006 to brainstorm the topic for the website. Ultimately, Bryan’s idea of a website on deforestation was further developed as it had the most relevance and impact on people around the world.  Although it was our first attempt at creating a website, we found ourselves with a common goal aimed at heightening the awareness of others with regards to the peril of uncontrolled deforestation. We decided on the title, “Forests: Our life-line, the deforestation dilemma.”

Nature walks to several forest reserves in Singapore were organized and the members were encouraged to participate so that we could appreciate more about the importance of forests. At the same time, the trails would serve as a photographic session to capture the important scenes of the trails. It also served as bonding time.

The team read The Straits Times, a Singaporean newspaper, to ensure that the project was kept up to date with the latest news and development.  A mind-map of the work planned was sent to each member and to the coach for updating purposes via the email. The project was, therefore, built “brick by brick.” We hope that you will be more aware of the plight of forests and how deforestation can destroy our life after reading this website.
