Overcoming challenges
 
The members shared the research and writing workload. Examinations and co-curricular activities posed a challenge where time was concerned. We learnt to work more efficiently by having better time management.

Nicholas was tasked with coming up with the cross-word puzzles. He did some research and found a suitable model we could use. Samuel agreed to chip in to help. With our coach’s help, they came up with three cross-word puzzles. Good teamwork did the trick.

Rui Jin found that minor mistakes at the planning stage of the website translated to more hours of work. The coach also made sure that the design was up to the mark. That meant more work, but tenacity ensured improvement.

Rui Jin has some background in making flash movies, so he taught his team-mates to make the flash movies. In this way, great teamwork ensured that everyone learnt something useful from the project. However, he did not know how to create videos and special audio-visual effects, so he approached Fang Hui to join the team.

Coming up with the surveys was not easy. We discussed the questions and design. However, we still made some mistakes but having open responses which was not easy to tabulate or present as a graph. Bryan's father and sister helped him to overcome the difficulties he encountered in getting the survey up.

We knew that it was necessary to come up with a lot of photographs for this website. So, Rui Jin organised trips to the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, Bukit Timah Hill and Treetop Walk to take some relevant pictures and videos. When he went to Japan, he also made it a point to snap some pictures of the temperate forests for the website. Similarly, when Samuel went to South Africa, he also took some photographs that were relevant to the website. To get even more photographs, Rui Jin approached his Uncle Yoke Lin who has travelled extensively. He also asked his cousin, Christian, who was going to Canada to take a photograph of the coniferous forest.

By learning how to overcome our challenges, we managed to come up with this website which we hope will be educational and be an eye-opener to high school students with regards to forests and the problems faced by deforestation.
