Bryan says...

Introduction

Hello, My name is Bryan. I am currently 14 years old and I am studying in the Anglo Chinese School (Independent) in Singapore. I joined Thinkquest on the invitation of Rui Jin, who was my primary school classmate. I had no clue what Thinkquest was until then.

Global Perspective

Throughout the past year, the Thinkquest competition has taught me about deforestation which is a hot global issue. I first learnt about it in Geography and was rather enthralled by the subject. During our first brainstorming session, I suggested this topic. My team-mates could relate to this topic, so we adopted it straight away and developed on it.

The learning curve

At the start of the competition, I was not really sure what I was actually in for. Now, I have a much better understanding of our topic that discusses the basic features of forests and expanded on the importance of forests and the dilemma faced in deforestation. We need to clear the forests to feed the needs of our hungry millions and for the purpose of development. On the other hand, deforestation can lead to a massive destruction of our environment I have definitely gained more insight into this problem that affects people all over the world.

Time management

This competition has also taught me how to balance my school work and the time I needed to spend doing research and writing for the competition. Creating the website was fun, but time-consuming. I spent some of my weekends in Rui Jin’s house to help in the creation of the website. I am glad to present you with a local survey on recycling.

Reflections

On the whole, this project for Thinkquest has been truly a memorable and enriching one for me. I am glad I that I have been introduced to Thinkquest and I am proud that we have worked together to put up a meaningful website that can be enjoyed by people all over the world.
