Water Carrying
How good are you at carting water? See how long it takes you to move one litre of water from one bucket to another bucket that is 100m away, using only a cup as a means of transport. While you are playing the game think about people in Africian countries and how long it would take them to walk 3 or 4 kilometres each day to collect water.
The women in many countries cart water by balancing a container on their head. See how you would go. Start with a fairly small container and build your way up. Many women are able to carry 10 - 20L of water on their head. This is
40 hour Famine (8 hour for primary aged students)
Participate in the 40 hour (or 8 hour depending on your age) famine. On this day you go without food to raise money to help poverty stricken countries. This is a good way to develop an understanding of what it is like to go hungry. Many children around the world are hungry everyday not just one day a year.
