Team Collaboration and Diversity
Team Collaboration

Our team was formed by a group of 6, each containing differing talents and skills. We also had different tastes and opinions towards matters, resulting in some conflicts, but these conflicts when resolved proved to be useful to the group as content was frequently debated upon and things were improved. One example would be the banner of the website. It was seen by Chuan Yu as not good enough and he had a different picture and idea of it in his mind, however, Alwyn found it acceptable. Chuan Yu then presented his ideas and the team managed to merge the ideas together and created a better looking banner.

Our group members also contain different skills and characteristics. Chuan yu, being the team leader, presented a rather high quality and expectation level, and this led to the website being of a certain quality. Alwyn, being more resourceful in IT managed to find new features to add into the website. Ray, being a well disciplined person, constantly finished his articles on time and keep to the deadlines faithfully, aiding in the progress of the group. Meng Ying, having good flash skills helped make the splash page which was of a substantial quality. Tseng wei, being an obedient group member aided the progress of the group by accepting jobs assigned by the leader. And De Sheng, having a notable standard of English helped edit articles.

Working together was a process, and this process was filled with certain obstacles. There were several cases of not meeting deadlines due to the heavy school work load, and members tended to blame each other. However, after some facilitating by the group leader, the group managed to understand each other’s commitments and knew when to give and take. It was not an easy process, but it was a process which was well worth, as it trained our teamwork and ability to work as a group, and it caused for the transformation of our group, to a team.

Team Diversity

Our team contains members with a wide diversity. First of all, in terms of nationality, Chuan Yu is from China, Tseng Wei is from Taiwan and Alwyn, Ray, Meng Ying and De Sheng are from Singapore. This alone would give us differing perspective of our topic due to the difference in government systems from our home countries. Next, Alwyn, being a vice chairman of a student’s council, had some experience in the governing sector, and thus had a unique perspective of how a group should be governed. While Ray and Chuan yu, being in the council itself, had another set of perspective. Tseng Wei, Meng Ying and De Sheng, being common students, had a totally different set of opinion on governance, and all these differing opinions and perspectives led to a diversity of thoughts in our team.
