Special features of the country
Russia is the country with the largest land area in the world, having about 1/8 of the world’s land area. Its land area is about 17.1km^2. This may be perhaps why Russia’s has such a huge temperature range of -71°C to 42°C.History
The Cold War was a devastating part of Russia history where not only the USA and USSR went to war. Korea, Hungary, Vietnam, Czechoslovakia, Poland and many other countries were also involved in the war. Thus it lasted for 45 years.
Structure of Government
Russia’s Government system is the presidential democracy where there is a president elected by votes and can have only 2 consecutive 4 year terms. The president has a lot of power as he is the head of state and armed forces. He is also able to nominate government officials, sack officials, call for new elections etc.
There is also the Prime Minister who is nominated by the president to be the chairman of the government. There is also a council of ministers consisting of 23 ministers nominated by the prime minister and appointed by the president.
There is also another federation council and state Duma. The federation council has 178 members serving 4 year terms. Its duty is to call for elections, approves border changes, adopts or rejects bills from Duma.
State Duma has 450 members serving 4 year terms. Its duty is to pass laws, approves ministers and oversees government operations.
Level of development
As Russia is a big country, it relies on agriculture to a large extent. Therefore, its level of technology is quite low. The civil wars and international wars it was involved in slow down its progress.
Economy
Even though there was an economic collapse in Russia in 1998, Russia’s economy is improving significantly due to the high oil prices currently; Oil makes up quite a significant part in Russian economy. Russia also gives its people a lot of freedom such as monetary freedom or financial freedom. However, this also leads to quite a number of corruption cases happening in Russia since money can be put in or out of the pocket quite easily without having to report to anyone.Military
Russia’s military strength is also not very strong as compared to the USA even though its land area is a lot larger than the USA’s. Russia’s available army strength is about 35 million as compared to USA whose available army strength is about 2 times of Russia, 68 million. This may be because Russia’s minimum enlistment age is 18 while the USA’s minimum enlistment age is 17.Literacy rate
Everyone would have thought that Russia’s literacy rate is very low. However, it is in fact the direct opposite. As taken from the CIA, the literacy rate of males in Russia is 99%, close to 100%. Also taken from the CIA is that this literacy rate in Russia is higher than that of the USA.GDP per capital
Russia’s Economy is quite good as its world GDP ranking is 20. The civil wars and international wars it is involved in also slowed its economical progress.
Will this form of government work in other countries
Russia’s Government system is able to work on other countries such as Brazil who has a similar government system to Russia such as it also being a presidential democracy.
Will another form of government work in this country
Communism did not work in Russia as can be seen when Stalin used communism to rule Russia, it was terror and chaos. For example, Stalin destroyed those who were against him like political opponents in 1936. Sergin Kirov’s, Leningrad party’s leader, assassination in 1936 by Stalin sparked off the Great Terror. Many political party members were arrested because of the reason that they were the ones behind the plot to kill Kirov when it was Stalin who was behind it all.
