The materials that can be recycled are glasses, paper, plastic, and
metal (Aluminum and steel). Read on to learn more about the materials
that can be recycled.
Glass: Glass can be
recycled. Normally, glass bottles that are used for containing
beverages are recyclable, as long as they are clear or green. Some of
the glass are not recyclable, like the glass from the windows, mirror
glasses, the glass from the light bulb and crystals. If you put them
into the bin, they may ruin the furnace during the recycling process.
If you want to recycle a glass bottle or jar that contain food
previously, remember to rinse them as the food may dirty the rest of
the recycling bin and attract insects like ants. The recycled glass
will still be used to produce glass jars and bottles, while some will
be used for construction purposes.
Paper: Do you know that paper takes up the most space in landfill
sites? So, we should recycle them. Normally, all kind of paper can be
recycled. Examples are newspaper, office paper, phone book, magazines
and books. Before giving them to the collectors or putting them into a
bin, remember to tie them up in bundles if they are in huge quantities.
These recycled papers can be used to produce paperboard, letters,
writing paper, exercise books and tissue paper.
Aluminum: It is a recyclable metal. The most common type of aluminum
that all of us can recycle is aluminum can. It needs little effort if
you wanted to recycle it. Just like a glass bottle, rinse it.
If needed, crush them to save space. Other kinds of aluminum can also
be recycled. After recycling, it will again be made into
cans.
Plastic: Do you know that many types of plastic can be recycled again
to form new products? However, do note that some other types of plastic
are non-recyclable. This is because they are still not widely used for
recycling and contain other chemicals. Detergent containers and normal
plastic bottles that contain drinks can be recycled. However, remember
to rinse the containers and bottles.
How
are the materials recycled?

Paper:
After paper is collected from the bins, it will be sent to recycling
plants for them to recycle these unwanted materials. They
will first produce a substance called pulp by adding water to the
paper. After that, the pulp will be made into new paper by a special
machine, before the recycled paper is marketed out for sale.
Glass:
Glass collected from the bins will be sent to a recycling centre for
recycling to take place. Firstly, the machines will crush the glasses
to small pieces. After that, they will be melted again. The glasses are
then cooled and changed to form new glass bottles and jars.
Plastic:
The plastic bottles will be sent to recycling factories after being
collected. They will be separated into different types of plastics. The
plastic will then be torn into many pieces so that recycling will be a
lot easier. After this process, they will be melted into liquid before
being molded by the machines. Finally, new plastics are
“created”.
Aluminum
Cans: Aluminum cans that can be recycled are collected and sent to
factories for recycling to take place. The machines then compress the
aluminum and tear them into pieces of metal. This aluminum is
transformed into slabs by machines after being heated over intense
heat. Another machine turns these slabs into thin metal sheets that are
then used to form new aluminum.
That
is all we have for recycling. However, before entering the next
section, here are some facts: If you recycle a ton of paper, you can
save 17 trees! And recycling aluminum needs only 5% of the energy
needed to make new cans. You save 95% of the energy! A XL size t-shirt
can be made by recycling only 17 500ml plastic bottles. So recycle
now!
