Venture Capital:
"An entrepreneur is someone who dares to dream the dreams and is foolish enough to try to make those dreams come true"
-Vinod Khosla-
Vinod Khosla grew up in New Delhi, India. When he was sixteen years old, he read a magazine article about a new company starting up called Intel. He knew immediately that he wanted to start his own business. Khosla went on to graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, moved to the
United States, and got his Master’s Degree in Biomedical Engineering from Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He continued his education and got M.B.A degree from Stanford University in 1979. He founded Sun Microsystems and after that business became successful he founded Khosla Ventures, a venture capital company.
Khosla has always had big dreams, which is the only way to entrepreneurial success, he says. "Entrepreneurs tend to be people who don't know what the reasonable limits are. You're imagining things that others say are impossible. That's the essence of entrepreneur-ship. So you're either naive or unreasonable. But it's a different kind of personality”, Khosla said.
He is one of a growing number of businessmen who are calling for action on global warming. In early 2007 he wrote an article published in the Wall Street Journal urging President Bush to reduce our dependence on oil. He has also testified before Congress on the ability of bio-fuels to help solve our energy problems. He has done his homework and can state the statistics on what solutions will work.

His greatest desire was to mentor other entrepreneurs and help them construct their technological businesses. That's why he started Khosla Ventures in 2004. His firm, Khosla Ventures has been one of the most active venture capital companies in Green Technology in the year 2007. In the first three quarters of 2007, they have participated in financing 14 companies who were looking for sustainable solutions. It is because of people like Vinod Khosla that others are able to actualize the dreams that they have and make sustainability a reality.
