"Education is
central to development and a key to attaining
the Millennium Development Goals". As stated in
the article of "Education and the World Bank"
from web.worldbank.com. However, to attain the
said key, there must have at least a quality
education given to every student, to every
people. But this education attainment seemed to
be hindered for the reasons that there are
different problems exist and infested quality
education.
Several
countries meet numerous problems regarding education. In some place
in America, up to 75% of students are dropping out, that converts to
3 out 4 students are without diploma and no skills. Even worse, far
too many of graduates cannot read or compute adequately. In the
Philippines, illiteracy rate is 12% of the population over fifteen.
With these data, it gave us the fact that countries all over the
world are dealing with this problem in education.
There are some
factors that can be considered which affect the growth of dilemma in
education.
·
Homelessness;
·
lacking of teacher;
·
poor educational reforms;
·
unable to provide the needs of
both students and teachers;
·
improper funding of teachers;
·
violence;
·
changing family structure that
don’t have clear solutions;
·
shortage of vital school
facilities;
·
not having of adequate materials
to teach the children; and
·
Teachers are not properly
prepared in teaching aspects which needed to have a quality
education.
Often, teachers
develop academic expectations of students based on characteristic
which are not related to academic progress. And these expectations
affect students in many ways, not just academically, but also
mentally and emotionally which causes lack of self-esteem. This lack
of self-esteem will tend the students to alter the way they learn,
and thus, it will cause to deteriorate the potential growth of the
student. These, in return, would have nothing to add to their
students’ achievement. And if these problems would not been solved,
illiterate would rapidly increase as time goes by.
