Early Parenthood

Child and Education

Early parenthood has depressing effect on a teenager’s educational attainment. Parenthood changes their priority. Since they already have a child to support, they will have to work and take the responsibility of an adult no matter how ill-equipped they are. Thus, pushing them away or making education their least priority.

Women who become parents are more likely to abandon schooling during their term of giving birth. Some continue studying while some are forced to stop completely for the sake of the child. This usually happen if there is no guidance coming from their family.

However, research shows that teenage father have high likelihood of not completing formal education than women. They shoulder the responsibility of the child’s welfare.

Being a teenager is hard; you have to study for almost the whole day. What more when your girlfriend told you that she’s pregnant? Since you’re going to be a teenage father, you will take the responsibility of the child with your girlfriend or wife. As a responsible family man you will support them with every aspect they need. Education will be set aside until the time your family is stable. By then you may continue your education but if the family continues to grow, completing the education might not be possible.

The family they have formed ahead of time will be a constraint to their education.
