Our team is from Miller Place, NY. We have a vast variety of people in the team, but we all had one goal, which is to work together and come up with a good project for this competition. Most of us are in the Web Design
class with Mr. Huse, who is our coach. Since this is our first year
entering into the completion, we found ourselves having a hard time
coming up with a good topic that has not been created (see more information
under (Our Concept). In the end, creating
this website has been a great experience for all us. We got the opportunity
to learn and worked together as a team. Coming up with an outstanding topic that would both be researchable and captivate our viewers was ultimately a difficult task. Within our group, we were confident that brainstorming for topic ideas would be the most successful way to come up with a winning topic. We all felt that it would be a topic that could be effective, yet easily researchable. At one of our meetings, we came up with our original idea – fossil fuels. Fossil fuels, in our eyes, was a sure fire winner. It’s an issue that relates to people globally, is easily researchable, and would be an interesting topic of discussion. Finding a replacement source for fossil fuels would benefit the world greatly, especially America. Unfortunately for us, this topic was already used in previous years of ThinkQuest. Although we could technically still continue with the competition using this topic, our minds were set with guidelines of how we would go about the competition. One of these guidelines was specifically being original. We found ourselves back at the beginning, struggling with choosing a topic. Eventually, we came up with the idea for the top most influential people that recently (1900-present) greatly impacted the world in any form. Our main source of inspiration came from Time magazine. Everyone knows of their list of people that shows either outstanding forms of humanitarianism, or possibly great achievements in the field of science. Our group felt that we could reform this idea to make an even better, more resourceful list of people that would not only include their names, but information on the people themselves. Our topic was set. Then came
about the process of design, information gathering, and coding. The
design aspect of the project was easy enough for us with the level of
creativity each and every one of us brings to the table individually.
As a group, we formed a fun yet productive workplace to create the basis
for the project. The only difficult part about the design aspect was
figuring out the navigation. We needed to, and ultimately did create
an easy but effective way to get from page to page on our site. As far
as information gathering goes, we split up the people we were researching
and assigned each member of the group certain people to research.
