By: C.S. Lewis
Do you ever think there may be some kind of magical world? If not, you will after you read The Magician's Nephew by C.S. Lewis. Digory and Polly are best friends and they live right next to each other. In fact, their houses are connected. All the houses on their block have attics that are also connected. Digory and Polly decide to see exactly what's in the empty house at the end of the block. They plan to cross through all the attics, but when they don't do their math right, things get crazy.
They enter Digory's Uncle's forbidden study. They learn that Digory's Uncle is a magician and Digory tricks Polly into touching a magical, yellow ring that made her vanish into thin air. Now Digory has to rescue Polly. Will they ever come back?
I recommend this book to Intermediate students because of the challenging words. It is a mysterious book about how Narnia was made. I also recommend it for students who have seen the movie "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe." The Magician's Nephew is part of the Chronicles of Narnia series.
