The Ku Klux Klan is a religious group that was formed on Christmas Eve, 1865. Six Confederate soldiers met in Pulaski, Tennessee to make
a secret fraternal order. They got their name from the Greek word "kuklos" meaning circle. At first the Ku Klux Klan was a group that would perform pranks on local houses. This secret group began
terrorizing all Jews, Catholics, homosexuals, and immigrants but most of all African Americans. They would break into African American houses at night wearing white sheets as their clothing and sometimes
dressed their horses in white as well. By 1920 the Klan population reached four million. Today the Ku Klux Klan population ranges between 6,000 and 10,000 members mostly in the south. |
