Introduction

Lord Vishnu has ten incarnations. These are called avataras. They are Matsya (the fish), Kurma (the turtle), Varaha (the boar), Narasimha (part man part lion), Vamana (a dwarf priest), Parashurama (brahamin holding an axe), Rama (prince of Ayodhya), Krishna (king of Dwaraka and chariot driver of Arjuna), Balarama (the enlightned one), and Kalki (still to be born).
