People all around the world have become the victims of sweatshop labor. Children under the ages of 15 and adults, elderly or young, are employed. As long as the job is done, the conditions of employment are not seen as an issue. There are sweatshops around the world and in those sweatshops people are being abused, both verbally and physically. Also, the working conditions are putting these workers at risk of disease, infection and many other health risks. Sweatshop workers sometimes don’t have the privilege to choose to be a sweatshop worker or not, because they sometimes are bought and are taken into sweatshops as property. If these workers fight for their rights or for a raise, they are either physically abused or sometimes even killed. “For example, in 2003, a Gap worker was shot to death during a worker protest in Cambodia . Cambodian police opened fire to disperse more than 1,000 garment workers who were protesting working conditions and pay.” These workers suffer from unfair treatment and the only people who can do something to stop this are the employers and us. You’re probably thinking, “What can I do to stop this crime?” Well, there are many things that can be done to stop sweatshops like:
So what can you do? There are many things that can be done, even the smallest things like showing your support against sweatshops makes a difference. Don’t think that your support does not count, because it does. There are millions of people suffering because of the unfair treatment in sweatshops. These workers don’t give up on their struggles to manufacture your clothing. So please don’t give up on them.
