Country Name: United States of America
Population: 301,139,947 (July 2007)
Country Issues:
The United States of America is known to be one of the most rich and powerful nations because of the growth of their industries. Although this is true, America has its up and down sides to it. The cotton crop is a native crop in America . Cotton farmers who grow conventional cotton in America use just about one third of a pound of insecticides for every pound of cotton harvested. Today, America has around 10,000 acres of land being used to grow organic cotton, due to its increasing demand in the fashion industry. Sweatshops were banned from the United States ; however the Department of Labor states that 50% of the United States garment factories are sweatshops, which are announced to the public as factories. These sweatshops that are said to be factories have not come to an end, because there is a shortage in inspectors in the Department of Labor. With this shortage, not all facilities are able to be visited for an inspection of the violations in these facilities. Also, sweatshops all around the world are all mainly managed by American industries like Nike, the Gap, Wal-Mart, J.C. Penny, Levi Strauss and many more. Many of the reasons why America is such a powerful nation, not seen as very pleasantly by other countries, is because of the use of other country’s resources. Fur Farming also started in America and later made its journey to different parts of the world. Fur Farming in America is rarely seen anymore, but it is still part of the American lifestyles. Many of the states have banned the use of traps in the wilderness for animals, like in California . Although America has issues, their country image is one of their main concerns.
