Country Issue:

The Thailand government disapproves of fur farming, an issue that has been affecting the Earth’s countries for decades. The Thailand government disagrees with the idea of taking the lives of animals for their fur, especially in their country. The slaughtering of dogs in this country is a big issue that has not been able to come to end after so many years. Estimates of approximately 30,000 dogs in Sakhon Nakhon, a neighborhood in northeast Thailand , are killed monthly for the use of their fur. Dogs that are being brought into the slaughterhouse are brought in from surrounding villages or at a fairly close distance of Sakhon Nakhon. Dogs are picked up from streets and even stolen from people to be put into crammed cages with little or no space for movement. Then they are placed on or below other cages with other dogs that will be taken to the slaughterhouse. When trucks arrive in at the slaughterhouse, it is loaded with around 70 dogs in small cages. However, before arriving at the slaughterhouse, the trips take up to about three days in which animals are not given food or water. When the trucks reach the slaughterhouse, the dogs are very ill; some have died from hunger, disease, or pain and others are very weak. Weakened dogs are beneficial to the person skinning the animal because it makes the job easier. Types of dogs that are used are mainly mixed breeds and German shepherds. Not all dogs brought to the slaughterhouse are large and well grown; pups are also brought in and slaughtered the same way. Before skinning, dogs are still alive and are beaten with a wooden stick on the head and nose several times to kill them. Although dogs are beaten several times with the intention of getting killed, not all dogs die. Some fall into unconsciousness to later awaken in the skinning process.   Dogs are skinned with sharp objects and after the skinning is over, another worker drags the dog to the ground with the other corpses. Then, the throat is cut. Some animals, after the skinning is done, are still conscious and are suffering before their death comes. Investigations are being done to try to put an end to this inhumane crime.
