India is located in Southern Asia and the weather is usually very hot year round. As of 2007, about 25% of the Indian population was found to be below the poverty line and there is around 7.2 percent unemployment in India . Because of their high unemployment rate, American industries like the GAP have taken advantage of this situation and opened sweatshops in India . Indian sweatshop workers are children between the ages 10 and 14. These children work long hours under harsh work conditions and are exposed to health threats. “The Indian economy depends on children about 20% or more which is equal to 55 million children under the age of 14.” Indian population depends on children for their production and manufacturing of products. The Indian economies depends on children, but overlook the exposure of threats like abuse, rape and health risk that children are exposed to daily in sweatshops.
