Creaters of the "Traditional Wrestling" much more brutal than modern styles (except for Sombo, wich originated in Russia and was used to train troops during the cold war). There was two styles they used Orthia pale and Kato pale. Orthia pale's main objective was to throw your opponent on the groung three times. Kato's main objective was to make your opponent to give up. They wrestled naked covered in olive oil and powder to make each other easier to grab. No blows, biting, or gauging were allowed and tripping was permitted. There were no weight classes so you had to be strong and stout built with a combination of skill, agility, and craft.
In the viking age there was a sport called Glima where there was no kicking or hitting allowed so it is considered wrestling. They wrestle in belts like in sumo wrestling The match ends when their opponent falls to the ground. There are eight basic tricks in Glima, but they can be combinded infinitely. Glima can be played by men or women of any age group. Glima is the national sport of icelandand is not known in almost any other country. This is because priest after the viking age consider it a pagan sport.
In 1965 two individuals who were unsatisfied with the AAU (Amateur Athletic Union) so they began talking with Walter Byers the excutive producer of the NCAA to form a wrestling organization formed by the wrestlers. Wrestling spread all the way to Japan in the middle ages and was enjoyed in most households. When the English came to America they brought wrestling with them. From then until now we have wrestling into what we call modern wrestling.
